Pierre Poilievre Ejected from Parliament for Insulting Trudeau
House Speaker Condemns 'Wacko' Remark
Conservative Leader Faces Censure
Pierre Poilievre, the leader of Canada's main opposition Conservative Party, was ejected from Parliament on Tuesday after refusing to withdraw a derogatory comment he made about Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
Speaker Greg Fergus ordered Poilievre to leave the House of Commons after a heated exchange with Trudeau during question period. Poilievre had called Trudeau a "wacko" in response to a question about the government's handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Fergus condemned Poilievre's remark as "completely unacceptable" and said it had no place in parliamentary discourse. He removed Poilievre from the chamber and referred the matter to the House Committee on Procedure and House Affairs for further investigation.
Poilievre, who is currently the favorite to win the next Canadian election, has defended his comment, saying he was simply "speaking the truth" about Trudeau.
