Match Report

Celtic continued their impressive start to the season with a dominant 5-1 victory over Slovan Bratislava in the first leg of their Europa League third qualifying round tie on Thursday night.

The Scottish champions took the lead in the 10th minute when Sead Haksabanovic fired home a low drive from the edge of the box.

Liel Abada doubled Celtic's advantage in the 25th minute with a close-range finish after good work from Jota.

Celtic continued to dominate after the break and made it 3-0 in the 52nd minute when Kyogo Furuhashi tapped home a cross from Haksabanovic.

S Bratislava pulled a goal back in the 65th minute through a deflected effort from Ivan Saponjic, but Celtic restored their three-goal lead just two minutes later when Abada scored his second of the night.

Substitute James Forrest added a fifth for Celtic in the 88th minute to complete the rout.

Reaction

"We played very well and created a lot of chances," said Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou.

"We could have scored more goals, but I'm happy with the performance and the result."

"It's a good start to the tie, but we know that the job is only half done," added Postecoglou.

"We need to make sure that we finish the job next week in Bratislava."

Next Fixture

Celtic will host S Bratislava in the second leg of their Europa League third qualifying round tie on Thursday, August 25.

The match will be played at Celtic Park and will kick off at 7.45pm BST.
